Storytelling is an amazing thing - and it's important children, and adults, of all ages get the chance to create their own characters in their own worlds.
That's why my author workshops are perfect for schools, from primary all the way through to Year 11 secondary - and colleges have taken up my workshops too.
Author workshops for schools and colleges
Your workshop will be tailored to your students, which means no two workshops are ever the same, which is great because it keeps it fresh for me.
I've covered lots in previous workshops, including:
- How I became an author
- Book readings
- First line hooks
- How to create a character
- Q & As
And a whole lot more.
Every visit is different, so if there's anything your wish me to cover, just let me know and I'll weave it into my presentation.
I have two price plans, which are as follows:
Price One: £300
This price is for the day - so, hammer me for as much as you can during my visit.
I'll take an assembly, run a workshop during every lesson and do a book signing.
Just give me some water and a lunch break and the rest, well, do with me what you will!
Pupils are encouraged to buy one of my Bumpkinton Tales books, and I'll send an order form prior to my visit.
Price Two: £70 & expenses + 20 books sold
Want me the whole day but want to save money?
Then this option is for you, all I need is £70, travel expenses and for a minimum of 20 books to be purchased by the pupils and/or the school.
If fewer than 20 are sold, it is up to the school or college to make up the shortfall (I'll send a pre-order form, so just get those students and teachers buying before I visit).
Patron of Reading
Not only am I an author, but I am a certified Patron of Reading - and you'll find me on their website: Patron of Reading.
Below you'll find some fab testimonials from happy schools who've enjoyed my author workshops:
"The students are still talking about you the day after your visit, and they're already asking when they can finish your story.
I am sure you have inspired many of them to write more!"
Taylor Wilkinson - Clifton Community School, Rotherham
“The workshop was excellent. Matthew had clear aims that he wanted to accomplish to make the workshop worthwhile and it was easy to see that he achieved these with the students.
Our students were learning about designing, naming and creating interesting characters with depth, motivation and back stories that you don’t necessarily disclose to your reader. Matthew also helped students understand effective ways to start a story.
I would recommend Matthew’s workshops to any school, especially those who have students with an interest in writing and potential aspiring authors.”
Rachael Potts, Librarian & Tutor - Ridgeway High School, Wirral
